Huelva (pop.145,000)
Located where the Odiel river meets the Atlantic Ocean, Huelva is an important
port and a significant center for the fishing industry, and has been so since
its origin dating back to the 12th century. Many of the city's historic remains
were destroyed in the 18th century earthquake, but several interesting sights
have lasted in the industrialized city of today. Some attractions are connected
with Columbus and the discovery of America, such as the Monument to Columbus
and Our Lady of La Cinta, since it was from near Huelva Columbus set sail for
the Americas in 1492.
