Jerez (pop. 200, 000)
The product that has given Jerez most of its fame and fortune is the wine derived
from its name; sherry. The fertile lands with its particular soil properties,
the climate and the special tradition of winemaking, are the main reasons for
yielding the unique Jerez sherry. There are several vineries in the area that
welcome visitors for tours and sales. Those producing the only "real" sherry
are located within the triangle comprising the cities of Jerez, Puerto de Santa
Maria and Sanlucar de Barrameda. Jerez is also home to the renowned Royal Andalusian
School of Equestrian Art, well worth a visit.
